OK, I am back from my vacation. Good times were had. Yay!
And now, to serious business. I'm making good progress in The Merchant of Venice. I'm at the start of Act 3, and it's looking like I can have the play done by tomorrow night. Now, I need to try to think of what to write about for my paper. Mrs. Paradise, any ideas without spoiling the ending too much?
The play isn't too hard to understand, in my opinion, which raises an interesting question: is there something wrong with understanding Shakespeare better than contemporary literature (i.e., Catch-22)?
And now for something completely different.
I'm going to reply to comments from my last post.
1. Mrs. Paradise: Thanks for agreeing with me, but you are making me wary of when I eventually go back and try reading it again. Also, thanks for the quote.
2. Carmen: The book really is annoying and confusing. I have to admit, part of the reason I picked it up in the first place is because I wanted to know just what "Catch-22" means. Now I know, and it makes me sad.
3. Jake: OK. I'm pretty sure it was about 11:00 P.M. when I wrote that thing. I wasn't kidding when I said my brain was hurting, so you'll forgive me for making a typo that the spell check wouldn't catch, even if I knew there was one (I only just saw it a few minutes ago.). Part of the reason I don't like 1984 is because it has one of the biggest downer endings ever. Thanks for the quote.
Just a couple more things:
1. I think I'll start using your quotes next time. This one was on my mind for a while. Bonus points if you know where it's from. Here's a hint: it's fairly recent, and it's somebody's last words.
2. I've got a Simpsons DVD on. The episode is "Marge Be Not Proud." There's something wrong with seeing Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, and Sonic the Hedgehog telling Bart to shoplift. (Sonic: "Just TAKE IT! TakeittakeittakeittakeitTAKE IT!!!!!")
Until next time.

Ok, I give! Who said "This is good...isn't it?"? The first person in my head was the Crocodile Hunter guy, but I'm pretty sure that's not at all right.
Carmen, don't worry about it. Unless you play video games, you probably won't get the quote. Heck, I don't even have the game the quote came from. Good guess, though.
It's Big Boss from Metal Gear Solid 4. I just liked the quote.
Glad you like the guessing, however.
P.S. The "Crocodile Hunter Guy" is Steve Irwin.
I'm going to issue a warning about my quotes. They can come from anywhere: books, TV, movies, video games, random pages on the internet, ANYWHERE!
And the same goes for quotes you guys give me. Have fun with it.
P.S. Jake, if you're reading this, I hereby give you permission to submit "Jacob Quotes." They probably just won't get picked. Or, they might, if I'm feeling generous.
P.P.S. It was a good guess, Carmen, but why would getting rammed through the chest by a stingray be in any way, shape, or form... good?
Argh! "I'll kill you!"
About MGS4: I do not posses a PS3, as SUCH I do NOT have Metal Gear Solid 4. It KILLS me. I want to continue this epic series, Raiden is definitely my favorite. I do NOT NOT NOT want to know ANYTHING from the game until I have the pleasure of playing it. So...being as the only person in this blog area who knows what you are talking about with Metal Gear Solid 4, please refrain from ruining the story for me. M'kay?
About Mr. Irwin: mentioning the sting ray is NOT cool. I repeat it is NOT cool.
About 1984: yes, the ending is sad. This makes it good. Happy endings are a cliché. A book of which I am in the process of fabricating has a "downer" ending.
About spelling: do you use a Google toolbar? I have it and it red lines anything it hates right when I type it in this little box. Very useful, as I misspell A LOT.
Moving on: make more posts! I'll have fun trying to find its origin. It will be a little game (please do not mention games that are PS3 exclusive!). I have a quote from you (not from 1984), guess its origin:
"They mostly come out at night...mostly."
Hint #1:In case you have troubles, it is mentioned on a South Park episode.
Hint #2: It is a movie, a personal favorite of mine.
Have a glorious day.
P.S. All my "posts" will include quotes...I will try to update my justified junction soon enough.
P.P.S. Get any replies from the areas you applied at?
OK Jake, time for my response.
My third favorite mgs character is Otacon (gotta love the nerd), my second favorite is Solid, and I'm not going to directly tell you my favorite, but here's a hint: "Place the controller on the floor... place it as flat as you can. That's good." Who doesn't love to see the fourth wall come crashing down? Actually I don't have any of those games, or a playstation (any version) to play them on, but it's a good story anyway. Having said that, if I can find a used copy of the gamecube remake, and I have enough money on me at the time, I think I might pick it up. Seriously... RAIDEN?!
I agree: the stingray was not cool.
No, I don't have Google Toolbar.
I will guess that your quote (not the one at the top, I know that's one of mine) is from Night of the Living Dead, recently referenced in the South Park episode "Night of the Living Homeless." And sure, I'm up for a quote battle. (Don't point out that I didn't put the movie title in italics. For some reason, the computer suddenly decided that Ctrl+i means that I want to see my favorites.)
No replies on the job front. I'm going jobless, it seems.
OK, serious literary discussion time, if anybody is interested.
I honestly don't think that the happy ending is cliche. It is more of a "trope" (If you're interested, check out www.tvtropes.com for their definition of "trope." Don't go to wikipedia on this one. Theirs is not my definition.). Basically, a trope is a common plot device, and unlike cliches, they are not necessarily bad things. If they are used correctly, they can really spice up the story. Example: the classic "hostage for macguffin (item of power that both good guys and bad guys want)" scenario forces the protagonist to make a tough choice: save the world, or save your friend, and his/her choice will almost always have a big impact on his/her life. Closely related is a trope with one of my favorite names: "The Sadistic Choice," named after Green Goblin's speech near the end of the first Spider-Man movie: "This is why only fools are heroes. Because you never know when some lunatic will come along with a sadistic choice!"
Discuss.
Sorry! You answer is "DENIED."
The correct answer is Aliens, probably my favorite movie. I would use a different, more popular quote, but it is not quite PG-13; it was referenced in Conker's Bad Fur Day though. I'll give you a part of it, "Get a way from her you ____."
Moving on, next quote (don't forget to check my new post on mi page):
"Come on! It is just like making love. You know, left, down, rotate 62 degrees, engage rotor..."
(Movie~)
Also, your blog space title annoys me, seriously. Hate it.
Answer your favorite: Mantis (he is the only one who I know who referenced a controller and broke the fourth wall)? I like him. Second favorite who is tied with Revolver OCELOT! Then Octagon (yes nerds are cool).
"I am Shalaska, also called...Revolver Ocelot!"
And yes, Raiden, probably because MGS2 was my favorite, not MGS1. This is probably because I played MGS2 before MGS1, and there is a 99% probability that whatever game you play in a series that hooked you in will be your favorite (I swear).
Also, I am not up for a debate. Let Paradise and zeh voman Carmen take zis over. That is vhat you truly vant.
OK, pretty sure your quote is from Futurama.
You don't like my title, eh? LIVE WITH IT.
"Zeh voman Carmen?" You're just asking her to beat you up next time she sees you, you know that, right?
Yeah, it's probably good to stay away from Conker's quotes. Even the official Nintendo magazine seemed to like to pretend that game didn't exist (until recently, at least).
Seriously, though, give the tvtropes website a try. In the relatively short amount of time I've known about it, I have spent ungodly amounts of time browsing that site. Just stay away from any page with "rule" in its name, with the exception of "rule of cool" and "rule of funny." You'll thank me later if you FOLLOW MY INSTRUCTIONS. I AM NOT KIDDING. AVOID.
And now for something completely different (again).
OK Jake, time for some relatively safe things for me to say about our favorite characters in MGS4.
In the case of Raiden, I really don't consider this a spoiler, as long as you've seen any of the previews that featured him. I will concede that he is incredible in MGS4. He's pretty much Grey Fox Version 2.0.
In the case of Mantis, this might be a spoiler, but it has zero relevance to the plot. It's just a wonderful surprise. His spirit makes a cameo appearance possessing a recently defeated boss (who just happens to be another psychic). He tries his fourth-wall-breaking tricks again. This time, however, he completely fails. And it is HILARIOUS. "WHERE'S YOUR DATA!? WHERE'S IT SAVED!?" No memory cards on the PS3, sucker.
P.S. I finally get to have my revenge for the "hi, not high" incident! It's "Otacon" not "Octagon." He explains it in his intro: "It's short for "otaku convention"."
Yes, that quote was from Futurama.
Do not use "eh" at the end of your sentences, this reminds of a character on Star Ocean who always ends each sentence with "eh?"
I knew I would slip up somewhere in spelling, and that I would get caught.
To answer your comment on das page, yes I do have a sword. I've always liked them (blame Japanese RPG's).
Moving on...
The answer to the quote of my title on das page was from Clocktower 3, a game on the PS2 I believe.
For a quote now: "What did you call this again? The sacrificial chamber."
For now, I'll end with a Jacob quote.
"Our objective is clear, we must destroy the sun!"
No idea where your quote came from.
The "Me Quote" technically isn't mine. It's modified from a Simpsons episode, "Who Shot Mr. Burns?, Part 1."
"Since the dawn of time, man has yearned to destroy the sun. I will do the next best thing: block it out."
Ok, if Jake gets to submit J-Cat quotes, I get to too. So, "She has betrayed us!". Yay! One more thing, I don't intend to beat Jake up. (He has a SWORD!)
Aliens vs Predator.
Nice to know I'm safe from Carmen.
Never knew that Jacob.
Once more onto the bridge:
"X equals X" and "A strong acid is strong"
Guess who said these.
Real mature, guys, ganging up on me.
I'm guessing Jake's new quotes come from... Mrs. White?
I think I can vaguely remember the acid one.
P.S. But Carmen, I know you can take him!
P.P.S. Are the three of us seriously the only ones who 1) comment on each other's posts, and 2) make posts that don't suck?
P.P.P.S. Jake, the phrase is "Once more into the breach."
Close. Alexander Latta of the Fourth French Aeronautical Regiment lead by Jean DeGaulle of the previous Vichy state.
Was it not obvious that I was mocking the once more into the breach?
Also, to your question, perhaps.
Either way, you need to make a new post 13+ comments are annoying.
Here is another quote:
"Just food for thought" and "Irregardless"
Carmen, you CANNOT answer this quote.
May I just say, you guys crack me up! :)
DO WE ENTERTAIN YOU, MRS. PARADISE!?
And Jake, I have to have a better reason to make a new post than "It's ticking off Zatecky."
Did the quotes come from Mrs. Harris? It would explain the made-up word.
Ignore him Carmen, answer the quote, I've got no other ideas.
Ding ding! We have a winner.
Yes, it came from Harris. I knew Carmen would know right on ze bat (ask Harris to point where Asia is on the globe, she'll point to Australia).
~Warning, random Jacob quote
"Stick it to the poor people"
~End warning
Moving on...
Here is another quote (should be easy):
"Snake? Snake?! SNAAAAKKKKKEEEE!!!???"
You're kidding me, right?
After my page quote?
The quote is from BOTH Metal Gear Solid AND from Super Smash Bros. Brawl (it is seriously scary to hear Slippy from Star Fox saying the quote).
And don't worry, as soon as I find a good reason to, I will make a new post.
I'll do this quick since we are both online.
Quote:
"Ahhhhhh, ewwwwww. You sick little monkey!"
(M'kay)
Holy crap, that was fast.
I'm guessing South Park.
Isn't it nice how this post has essentially turned into a chatroom? Not that I'm complaining or anything...
Yes it has. We could use a IM to more effectively communicate.
Anyways, you were right.
Another quote:
"That's Robert Loggia. 'R as in Robert Loggia'. O as in 'Oh my God, it's Robert Loggia'. B in 'By God! It's Robert Loggia!' E as in 'Everyone loves Robert Loggia'...."
(there is more to the quote, I could go on, but it would take awhile to type)
I think I've heard the quote, or at least something similar, but I don't know where it's from.
Sorry.
Ok, seriously J-Cat, make another post, this comment makes 22 comments!!! And I knew both the Mrs. Harris and the Alex Latta quotes. One more thing, Latta would be really mad at you for putting him in a French anything.
OK, I made a new post. ARE YOU HAPPY!?
